GENERAL CONDITIONS
Eligibility: Entry is only open to residents of New Zealand and financial members of PSNZ residing overseas; however, an entry may be rejected when the exhibition organisers, in their reasonable discretion, believe the entry does not conform to these Conditions of Entry.
Image Creation / Certification: Images entered into this salon must originate as photographs (image captures of objects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or acquired digitally. By virtue of submitting an image, the entrant certifies the work as his or her own (aliases are not permitted). Images may NOT incorporate elements produced by anyone else (for example: clip art, textures, replacement skies, stock images or art downloaded from the internet). No title or identification of the maker shall appear anywhere on the face of an image. Photographs with any watermarks are not accepted.
Alteration, Computer Generation and AI: Subject to section restrictions (particularly those incorporated in the Nature definition), images may be edited or altered, electronically or otherwise, by the maker or under their personal direction. Adjustments to enhance images or creatively modify images are allowed in the Open Colour, Open Monochrome, Creative and Portrait sections, providing the underlying photograph is retained in a way that is obvious to the viewer. Images created in whole or in part by image creation software (often called AI) are NOT allowed. All parts of the image have to be photographed by the author who is holding the copyright of all works submitted. Images in the Nature section must comply with the PSNZ definition for that section.
Subject Matter (Living Creatures): In all sections, the welfare of living creatures is more important than the photograph. Practices such as baiting of subjects with a living or sacrificed creature, feeding of live creatures to captive animals, birds or reptiles, and removal of birds from nests are NOT permitted.
Workshops: Images taken during workshops and/or photo tours are permitted as long as they have NOT been taken under the direct guidance of a tutor. Images where models, props, lighting, etc, have not been directly controlled by the entrant are not allowed.
Reproduction: The entrant permits the organisers to reproduce all or part of the entered material free of charge for display and/or publication in media related to the salon. This may include posting on the internet.
Copyright: Copyright to entries remains at all times with you (the entrant). The salon and/or the organiser assumes no liability for any misuse of copyright by anyone.
Data Protection: By entering this salon, you, the entrant, are explicitly consenting to the personal details you have supplied, including email addresses, being held, processed and used by the salon organisers for purposes associated with this salon. You acknowledge and accept that entering this salon means that the status and results of your entry may be made public.
Email List: By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrant accepts that their email address will be used for communicating information about this salon and may be used for announcements of future salons by the organiser. The entrant may opt out of this email list after the salon by notifying the Salon Chair. NOTE: Opting out before the salon catalogue is posted can result in the entrant not receiving important salon status information such as scorecards.
Entry/Section: An entry consists of, up to and including, four (4) images entered by a single entrant into the same section.
Double Entry: An image or an identical image – or a monochrome version of a colour image – may be entered in only one section of the salon.
Identical Images: Images are considered to be identical if they are the same image or alike in camera or a reproduction duplicate of that image regardless of media, format, or title.
Judge Entry: Judges may not enter any section that they are judging but they are eligible to enter sections they are not judging in the salon.
Chair Entry: The Chair of the salon may not enter any section in the salon. Neither can any other person enter any section if they have access to the images prior to the judging.
Entry Status: An entry status list on the salon website will be updated automatically. Before checking entry status the webpage may need to be refreshed. If any issues are noted, please contact Salon Chair to resolve.
Image Format: The maximum image size is 1920 pixels horizontal and 1200 pixels vertical when the image is viewed with correct orientation. Images larger than the permitted size will be rejected. Smaller images are permitted but will be appear smaller on screen. Maximum size of file is 3 MB. File format must be JPEG.
Titles: Each image must have a unique title. Titles must be no more than 35 characters (including spaces). Titles may not include file extensions such as .jpg or .jpeg, or camera capture filenames, or words such as “untitled” or “no title”. Titles may not consist solely of numbers. Please do not use macrons, accents, or characters such as / \ : ? * ” < > | ‘ # ( ) – in file names or image titles. Other than the aforementioned, titles should be exactly as you want them to appear in the catalogue.
File Names: Image file names should have the same name as the title of the relevant digital image in the online entry system. For example, an image called “West Coast Sunset” should have a file name “West Coast Sunset.jpg”. Titles and file names must use the English alphabet and may include numbers. Please refer to Titles, above.
Borders: Please keep borders to a minimum if you need to use a border to separate the image from the background.
Judging Method: The initial round of judging will be done online. There will then be separate video conferences of judges for each section to determine the awards. The decisions of the judging panels with regard to acceptances and awards are final and without appeal.
An entrant’s images will not be presented consecutively to the judges. Each entrant’s images in a section will be distributed throughout four rounds of judging in that section. Distribution of images shall be in the same round order as submitted by the entrant.
All information, including image file names, provided to the judges for remote judging will retain complete anonymity of the entrants and not provide the judges with any means of determining any entrant’s personal details, such as name or email address.
Medals and other Awards: Medals, ribbons and trophies will be sent by mail or courier by the date specified. Other awards will be in the form of electronic certificates in PDF format downloaded from the salon website; a link will distributed to entrants by email by the same date.
Breach of Conditions of Entry: To ensure that images comply with the Conditions of Entry, including all relevant definitions, the salon organisers or the judges may request the entrant to provide the originally captured images (e.g. RAW files), with EXIF data intact, by a specified deadline. If the requested image(s) are not received in the specified time those images will be deemed to be in breach of the Conditions of Entry.
Image Disqualification: Images may be disqualified from the salon and not scored or accepted if the salon organisers or the judges decide that the image does not conform to these Conditions of Entry, is considered objectionable or offensive, or deemed unsuitable to the nature of the salon. In such cases no refund of fees will be made to the entrant.
The salon organisers will make reasonable efforts to review entered images for compliance with these Conditions of Entry and may give the entrant the opportunity to submit replacement images if the salon organisers believe that the original submission should be disqualified. Such opportunity for resubmission may only be offered if the image is submitted in ample time before the closing date of the salon.
Liability: The Māwhera National Salon of Photography or the organisers will not be liable for any claims relating from your copyright or privacy infringements or disputes.
NOTICE
Before an entrant is permitted to submit an entry into this salon the entrant will see a feature to affirm they have read these Conditions of Entry. If the entrant does not so affirm the entrant will not be permitted to enter this salon.
